Mariana Leitão says that the new measures for housing are a poorly achieved attempt by the government to copy the proposals of the liberal initiative. The party’s president accuses the government to add bureaucracy, instead of lowering taxes
The leader of the liberal initiative (IL), Mariana Leitão, accused this Saturday the government of having made a “very poorly made copy” of part of the liberal proposals for housing and criticized the excess of bureaucracy of the announced measures.
The proposals announced by the government for housing “They are almost an attempt, a little unlicened, to copy some of the ideas of the liberal initiative and I refer to VAT at 6% for construction.”said Mariana Leitão, speaking of Gondomar, during a pre-campaign action for the October 12 municipalities.
The legislative package is “A very poorly made copy and, therefore, I would even like to leave the Report to the Prime Minister so that when he needs the help of the liberal initiative, we are entirely available to make our contributions so that these measures can, in fact, have concrete application,” Said the liberal leader, who are coalred in Gondomar with the PSD.
“It’s a scourge”
“The liberal initiative has been very vocal regarding the whole problem that feels of housing. It is a scourge” e, “Right now, we know that thousands of people have a hard time being able to meet the expenses that implies buying a home or paying an income,” He pointed out the political responsible, recalling that the party has “warned successive government times” to the problem, but without response.
“It must not be forgotten that this government was the same as in 2024 presented a housing plan that, deep down, did not materialize at all,” he stressed.
Luís Montenegro announced this Thursday that the government will lower the VAT rate to 6% for the construction of houses for sale up to 648,000 euros or, if they are for lease, with rent up to 2,300 euros (moderate income) – a tax regime that will take into account by 2029.
This “Measure as designed by the government, what will create is more bureaucracy, more complication, what will require is that prosecutors have to pay VAT to 23% and then go through a whole bureaucratic process to be able to recover the difference on that maximum value which, however, is established in housing.”accused Mariana Leitão.
“Government measures fall far short of what the country needs.”
As regards the lease, instead of tax adjustments, “What is required is that the taxes are lowered transversely”why “This is what the country needs to resolve the housing crisis, to give confidence to the landlords, to but also their homes in the market.”
What Il wants, he explained, is “Ensure that there is an impetus of the housing market, a boost in the construction market and the lease market to ensure more houses”com “Less bureaucracy and less complications in contracts made between landlords and tenants, more contractual freedom and is that we need right now”but “Government measures fall far short of what the country needs.”
In the municipality of Gondomar, the IL competes for the PSD, locally led by Deputy Emídio Guerreiro, and occupies fourth place in the list to the House, with the promise of having the finance portfolio, and the fifth, ninth and 11th on the list for the Municipal Assembly.
Four years ago, the PS kept the House, getting seven seats in the defendant, against three from the PSD and one from CDU.
