Rafael Rocha left the STF before the US visa suspension; sanctions are part of retaliation for decisions against Bolsonaro
Judge Rafael Henrique Window Tamai Rocha left the position of assistant magistrate in the minister’s office in the (Federal Supreme Court). Rocha was included in the list of Brazilian authorities sanctioned by the United States after the conviction of the former president (PL) for attempted coup.
The departure of the magistrate was formalized in a ordinance published in the DOU (Official Gazette of the Union) On September 15, 2025, a week before the US announcement on the US on Monday (22.Set.2025). Read A (PDF – 76 KB).
Sanctions are part of a retaliation of STF decisions related to Bolsonaro, ally of President Donald Trump (Republican Party). The former president was sentenced to 27 years and 3 months in prison by the 1st Panel of the Court. In addition to Rocha, the US also applied restrictions on Viviane Barci de Moraes, the minister’s wife, and the Lex Institute, linked to the family of Moraes.
Rapporteur of the action attempted scam, Alexandre de Moraes was the 1st Brazilian to be directly by Magnitsky Law in July, which may include blockade of bank assets and accounts in the United States.
