With the departure already announced by the governor to run for presidency in 2026, the new will no longer have representatives in the highest positions of the state executive.
Asked by the column, Simões neither confirmed nor denied the change of acronym. In a statement, he just said that the PSD is the largest party in the base of the government of Minas Gerais and that Kassab is an “extraordinary political articulator.”

According to the senator, this position must be maintained “so as not to break the covenant with confidence with voters” and to preserve the social democratic identity of the subtitle.
Pacheco also criticized “the unbridled attempt to anticipate the electoral calendar, as if the elections were more important than the problems of our society.”
He also stressed that the growth of the PSD – which today commands three ministries in the Lula government (mines and energy, agriculture and fishing), as well as the city of 142 municipalities – “it was not the work of chance or third parties.”
