The Algarve continues to be seen as the ideal destination to extend summer days, even though it has already started autumn, with Spanish visitors highlighting five locations in the region where the sun and the sea can be taken advantage of. The selection brings together well -known arenies and more tranquility, but it also includes a choice that deserves caution, because it is not even considered a beach.
According to Spanish magazine Magisterio, Cacela Velha was included among the suggestions, although not nicknamed the beach. It is a historic village on the way, overlooking an extensive sand that is often photographed and sought by visitors. However, access is not considered safe and as such is advised against.
According to the Lusa news agency, the National Maritime Authority (AMN) has been reinforcing the discouragement of bathing activity in Cacela Velha. The entity recalls the July episode, when a woman was rescued after being dragged by the current, and maintains the warning to the absence of adequate conditions for bathing practice in that area. Thus, despite its beauty, the official recommendation is clear: not attending the sand.
Other recommended Areals
According to the Spanish magazine, Praia do Ancão, in Loulé, is distinguished by the Long Areal and the combination of tranquility and support services. Beach of Ilha da Barreta, accessible only by boat from Faro, is described as a natural space preserved, ideal for those looking for isolation.
Fuzeta Island Beach is another option, especially for families, for the connection with Ria Formosa and for the relaxed atmosphere. Already Cabanas de Tavira Beach presents an extensive and accessible areal by boat, maintaining calm as the central element of the experience.
Facilitated connection since Spain
Adds the publication that road access helps to explain the Spanish interest. The A22 motorway, known as Via do Infante, was free of tolls in early 2025, allowing a direct connection between the Guadiana border and lakes.
It refers to the same source that, despite free, remain signs that advise adhesion to the easytoll system, something that is no longer necessary on this pathway. The system remains mandatory only for other highways, such as A2, which connects the Algarve to Lisbon.
According to the same source, this change has simplified the planning of short travel, making the possibility of weekend escapes southern Portugal. For Spanish visitors, the elimination of additional costs also represents an added incentive to visit the algarve beaches.
According to the magazine, the combination of good accessibility, mild climate and diversity of landscapes continues to put the Algarve among the most sought after destinations to extend the bathing season, both Portuguese and foreigners.
