United States President Donald Trump ordered troops to the city of Portland -which is governed by Democratic Mayor Keith Wilson -in Oregon, “authorizing the use of total force if necessary” to deal with “domestic terrorists.”
He instructed the war department to “provide all the troops needed to protect Portland, devastated by war,” but the White House did not immediately respond to a request for details about Trump’s announcement, as a schedule for the detachment or which troops would be involved.
Trump’s announcement is a new deployment of the Republican’s efforts to send the American National Guard to cities governed by Democrats, justifying the lack of security. Previously, Trump threatened to send the National Guard to Chicago, but has not yet fulfilled, and sent Marines to Los Angeles.
