UN: Common Declaration of 20 States to Protect Journalists in Gaza

On September 24, during the high -level week of their General Assembly, after the end of the event organized by France with the “Journalists Without Borders”, Greece co -signed the following statement: the following statement:

We met with representatives of civil society in order to discuss the protection of journalists in Gaza, as well as access to information.

We pay tribute to the performing their duties.

We confirm our commitment to the safety of journalists and media workers in Gaza and call for their protection, in accordance with International Humanitarian Law. We call on the Israeli authorities to allow journalists who want it from the Gaza Strip and the access of independent foreign media to Gaza.

We reiterate our commitment to the principles of freedom of press and freedom of expression. Safe access to information is essential, so that journalists and media workers can perform their duties. A free and pluralistic type is a prerequisite for the functioning of democracy.
