"Auto dos Zarolhos": Opera explores satirical side of Camões

In the 500th anniversary of the birth of Camões, the Puppet Theater of the Mandrake and the “Choir Men” lead to the scene “Auto dos Zarolhos”. It is a satirical opera, with libretto by Mário João Alves and music by conductor António Victorino d`Almeida.

One last look at the score before listening, for the first time, the junction of voices and instruments. 50 years later, António Vitorino D`Almeida revisits the life and work of Camões.

In this “Auto dos Zarolhos”, written by Mário João Alves, we got to know the most informal side of our largest poet.

The “choir boys” give voice to the characters of this “Auto dos Zarolhos”, exits from the workshops of the Mandragora Puppet Theater.

The show was designed for the 500th anniversary of the birth of Camões and the innate inspiration of conductor António Vitorino d`Almeida.
