The president of the Supreme Court (STF), Minister Luís Roberto Barrosotook stock of his management at the head of the Supreme and the CNJ (National Council of Justice), highlighting crucial decisions for the country. In an interview with CNNBarroso emphasized the preventive role of the judgment of the coup attempt, characterizing it as a milestone in the closure of democratic instability cycles in Brazil.
The magistrate stressed that the trial of the coup attempt, already backed by evidence displayed publicly, fulfilled the main role of criminal law: general prevention. “You condemn people so that other people do not want to commit the same offense and are sure that they are committed can be convicted.”he explained.
Impactful decisions for society
During its management, the Supreme Court issued significant decisions in various areas, including the regulation of digital platforms, public and private health issues, and the immediate execution of the Jury Court decisions.
Barroso also mentioned important advances related to paternity leave and free transportation to voters on election day.
Among other relevant achievements, Barroso highlighted the decisions that benefited the LGBTQIA+ community and its access to health, as well as the disintegration of ten indigenous lands that were illegally occupied by prospectors.
These actions demonstrate the active role of the Court on social and environmental issues of great impact for Brazilian society, according to Barroso.
