Two federal committees created by the former president (-MG) were abandoned in the current management, (-AP), and used to inflate the senators’ office.
The Democracy Defense Commission and the Communication Commission did not even meet this year, but had 23 positions available to their former presidents (PSD-MA) and Eduardo Gomes (PL-TO).
The two collegiate have no presidents or members, but they continue to exist on paper – and, like every Senate Standing Commission, have up to $ 162,000 per month to pay commissioners.
The amount is equivalent to six employees with a salary of $ 27,000, but to enable hiring a larger number of people. About $ 100,000 per month are being spent monthly for each commission.
In the case of defense of democracy, the amount has been divided into 12 commissioners, according to a September spreadsheet sent by the Senate Sheet. Of the 12, 6 are allocated in the Office of Eliziane and 6 in the parliamentary block of which the PSD, the party of the senator, is part.
The Communication Commission employs 11 employees. According to the Senate, 10 are in the office of Gomes and 1 in the vice presidency, a position for which he was elected at the beginning of the year.
The two commissions have paid varied salaries, ranging from R $ 3,050.08 to Junior Parliamentary Assistant to R $ 15,639.76 for intermediate parliamentary assistant. All positions are also entitled to a meal voucher of R $ 1,784.42.
Eliziane was sought by the report, but did not comment on the positions. By note, the senator praised the creation of the Democracy Defense Commission and the work done under her presidency, such as the approval of ten bills.
“The creation of the Senate Democracy Defense Commission was an initiative that placed Brazil in the avant -garde compared to other countries,” he said.
“It is a permanent collegiate with very current debate when we follow in several countries and in Brazil itself the growth of extremist groups, who try to dismantle democracy and insert in their dictatorial government structures. The collegiate in a year of operation had several major proposals for reaffirming the democratic rule of law.”
Gomes said that even with the paralyzed commission, the 11 commissioners continue to work. The senator also stated that employees are not at his service, but of the vice presidency (which is occupied by him).
“As the house has not yet decided whether the commission will continue to exist or be extinguished, the hundreds of cases remain under the responsibility of these people, who are awaiting a definition,” he said through his press office.
The senator added that he is awaiting a decision of the Board of Directors about the destination of the committees to define whether employees will be upheld, dismissed or relocated. The Senate Board of Directors was also sought by the report, but there was no response.
The Democracy Defense Commission was in June 2023 in response to the coup attacks of.
The Communication Commission, in turn, was proposed by Pacheco at the same time to contemplate: Gomes and Romário (PL-RJ)-who was delivered to the presidency of the Sports Commission between 2023 and 2024.
At the time, in retaliation for the presidential candidacy of the Senate, the PL had been one of the other permanent committees by the Pacheco political group.
The stoppage of the Communication Commission has had practical implications for the operation of the Senate.
With paralysis, almost 1,000 radio and television grant requests, whether renewal or new grant, have been transferred in recent days to evaluate the Senate Science and Technology Commission.
The board should also have discussed and voted on the bill that, approved in May. Since the commission was not working, the way found by the senators to vote in the plenary was to bring the text of the bill to the one of another who had already gone through the required committees.
