The star of Porto-Rican Reggaeton Bad Bunny will be the big star of the next Super Bowl break, the final of the NFL (Football League) and the most watched event every year in the United States.
Latin music will be back on the stage of the event on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, near San Francisco.
“What I feel goes beyond myself,” said Bad Bunny in a statement released on Sunday (28) by NFL. “It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards for me to get in and mark a touchdown.”
“This is for my people, my culture and our history. Go and tell your grandmother that we will be the super Bowl break show,” he celebrated.
“I’ve been thinking these days and, after talking to my team, I think I will only make a date in the United States,” wrote the singer himself, who shared the video with his nearly 50 million Instagram followers.
Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, known artistically as Bad Bunny, has just completed a series of 31 shows in San Juan, a special initiative that celebrated Porto Rican identity and culture.
The shows attracted to the island, a free territory associated with the United States, celebrities such as athletes LeBron James and Kylian Mbappé and actors Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz.
In November, he will start the world tour “It was to take bad photos”, which did not include performances in the United States.
The decision, recently said the artist, is related to the fear that his shows are affected by current migratory operations in the United States, ordered by President Donald Trump.
“It’s something we talked about and worried a lot,” the port-aicon told British magazine ID.
Trump attended the last Super Bowl in February in New Orleans (Louisiana) on the first visit of an acting president to the game.
For the NFL, the most powerful American League in the process of international expansion, Bad Bunny is an “exciting and natural choice” for its biggest stage.
“As one of the world’s most influential and ears, its unique ability to connect genres, languages, and audiences make it an exciting and natural choice to lead the Super Bowl interval show,” said Jon Barker, Vice President of NFL global event production.
“What Benito did and continues to do for Puerto Rico is really inspiring. We are honored to have him on the biggest stage in the world,” rap star Jay-Z said, whose producer Roc Nation has been ahead of the show since 2019.
“Welcome back to the Super Bowl stage. Here is my Latin people,” he wrote on Sunday on Instagram to celebrate the choice of Porto-Rican. Bad Bunny had already participated in a Super Bowl when Shakira and Jennifer Lopez were the great stars of the break show.
Bad Bunny, however, was not among the names most mentioned in speculation that always follows this choice.
The bets focused mainly on Adele and Taylor Swift, a personality connected in recent years to the NFL.
