This incident has brought to light the severity of the problem of adulterated beverages, which have been worryingly circulated in the market. The Brazilian Beverage Association (Abrabe) revealed that in 2025 more than 160,000 counterfeit products were seized in the state, highlighting the magnitude of the problem. The entity expressed solidarity with the affected families and stressed the importance of operations to combat the marketing of illicit products, which totaled more than 160 between 2024 and 2025.

In addition to operations, Abrabe has invested in training, conducting 87 training that prepared more than 4,500 authorities to identify counterfeit drinks. This effort is crucial to equipping security and inspection forces with the tools needed to face this threat. In the same period, 97 criminal actions and 165 new inquiries began, with the support of bodies such as the Federal Police, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the Municipal Guard, the Procon and the Judiciary. This interinstitutional collaboration is fundamental to curb the commercialization of fake alcohol and protect public health.

Confirmed deaths include a 54 -year -old man in São Paulo and another in both occurred in September. Currently, there are 10 cases under investigation and six confirmed, which increases the concern of the authorities and the population. Given this alarming scenario, the Ministry of Public Security issued an alert for bars, wineries and consumers to redouble attention to the origin of acquired alcohol. The population is advised to verify the origin of drinks before consumption, especially in the state of São Paulo, where the number of seizures of counterfeit products is alarming.
