Iconic narrator and presenter of ESPN, better known as buddy, died on Monday (29) at 63. The cause of death was not disclosed. The funeral will take place from 13h to 17h, at Funeral Home, in the Bela Vista neighborhood, in. Paulo Soares dedicated more than 30 years of career to ESPN and stressed by presenting the Sportscenter program alongside Antero Greco, killed in 2024 cancer victim.
Paulo Soares was known for the charisma, good mood and the light way in which he drove sports. Alongside Antero Greco, he formed one of the most beloved pairs of Brazilian sports television, creating slogans and moments that marked generations of fans of the sport. At the time of his friend’s death, he made a very emotional participation in ‘Sportscenter’. “Antero always arrived on time. In all situations. It was an annoying thing. Now, I just wrote and say, ‘Wow life, Antero, you liked to get late, on time, why did you leave now? So that it was not time yet’.”
Over the past few years, Paulo Soares has undergone six spine surgeries and had to stay away from ESPN to take care of his health twice, in 2017 and 2023. Friend began his career on radio before migrating to television. In front of the cameras, he acted in Gazeta, Record and Culture. He arrived at ESPN in 1990, shortly after the creation of the channel in Brazil, and became one of the station’s main references. Paulo Soares was also narrator of Radio Eldorado ESPN in the early 2010.
