Aceino Freitas, Popó, said he will need to undergo surgery after the fight against Wanderlei Silva and the widespread fight between members of the two teams last Saturday (27).
“I’m hospitalized at the hospital, under observation. Tomorrow [terça-feira] I have surgery, “said Popó in a video published on his social networks, without detailing the reasons or what the surgical procedure he will be submitted.
“I’m fine, very well, but unfortunately I will have to have the surgery,” he said.
Popó and Wanderlei Silva participated in an event sponsored by the Spaten beer brand and should compete for up to eight rounds. The clash ended in the fourth round when Pride’s former pride was punished with a third point for trying to hit the opponent with heads.
Immediately after the Gong, the teams of the two fighters climbed in the ring and then thrown into an even more violent confusion, in which Wanderlei was knocked out.
According to Fabrício Werdum, former MMA champion and member of Wanderlei’s team, the former fighter had his nose broken and took points on his face. After being knocked out, Wanderlei was unconscious, but left the scene of the event on his feet and alert. It was taken by ambulance to the São Luiz Hospital, in the south of São Paulo.
Popó stated that during the confusion, he was assaulted by Wanderlei Silva’s coach, in need of his brother Luís Claudio’s help in order to get rid of his aggressor.
“Were it not for that, we would be watching worse scenes now, although I was in the hospital with sequelae.”
Fixed world champion, Popó agreed to attend the event only near the date of its realization, after Vítor Belfort, another former fighter, to have to give up due to a bruise.
The event, promoted by Spaten brewery, bets on the mixture of entertainment and martial arts with a gala night, with audience restricted to guests and the press.
