You can even find these stickers: “Ilva Kills” on the dungkübeln outside of the airport in Bari. No further explanation, in southern Italy everyone knows what is meant anyway. Ilva is called the largest steelworks in Europe, which is in the middle of the city of Taranto (in Italian: Taranto). Built in 1960, it was an important economic factor and employer, now you know that it is massively dirty air, water and soil. It ensures respiratory diseases and a high cancer rate. Taranto has a very bad reputation as the dirtyest city in Italy. Shamedingly little has changed for decades.
