Acrean drowned in Fortaleza do Abunã after leisure trip with friends

Autonomous Acrean Josué Farias da Silva, 48, a resident of Rio Branco (AC), drowned on Sunday afternoon (28) at the resort of Fortaleza do Abunã, Porto Velho district (RO). The place, about 280 km from the capital Rio Branco, is very popular with bathers from the northern region.

According to information from the Fire Department, Joshua had traveled on the 23rd, accompanied by two friends, for leisure moments in the resort. During Sunday afternoon, he entered the water and eventually disappeared. On the same day, another drowning was recorded in the region of Fortaleza do Abunã. A man of Bolivian nationality drowned after the vessel he was turning in a waterfall. His body was located on Sunday morning and sent to Guajará-Mirim (RO).

Rescue teams were fired and began searching in the afternoon. Joshua’s body was located at the end of the day and taken to the Movement of Porto Velho, where he underwent legal examinations before being released to his family.

The case generated commotion among friends and relatives, as Joshua was well known in Rio Branco. The occurrence also draws attention to the risks of drowning in areas of current and deep water.
