In the inaugural speech as president of the STF and CNJ on Monday (29), Fachin proposed a tripod of immediate actions to structure the proposal.
“In the fight against criminal, corporate, institutional or network organizations, including the environmental and transnational domain – we will propose the analysis of a tripod of immediate actions: National Organized Crime Map; Specialized Unit Management Manual, and interinstitutional pact for confrontation,” said Fachin, who also assumes the presidency of the CNJ for two years.
“In parallel, we will focus on intentional crimes against life and digital crimes that today afflict society so much,” he added.
The CNJ is a body that aims to improve the work of the Brazilian judiciary, including regarding the control and administrative and procedural transparency.

Fachin stated that the judiciary needs containment and that power cannot be submissive, so as not to lose its credibility.
“Judicial independence is not a privilege, but a republican condition. A submissive judiciary, whatever it is, even if it is populism, loses its credibility. Jurisdictional provision is not a spectacle. It requires containment,” he said.
Fachin takes over the STF. He is in the presidency of the Supreme until September 2027. The new vice president is the minister (Superior Electoral Court) of 2022.
Fachin’s inauguration has the presence of authorities such as the Presidents of the Republic (PT), ((Republicans-PB), and, (Brazil-AP), as well as governors, ministers of other higher courts, government ministers and the president of the Brazilian Bar Association, Beto Simonetti.

Gaucho de Rondinha (RS), Edson Fachin studied law at UFPR (Federal University of Paraná), where he is also a full professor of civil law. He has made a career in the state as a lawyer in the areas of Civil, Agrarian and Real Estate Law and as State Prosecutor.
Fachin was nominated for () by () in April 2015 for the vacancy left by Joaquim Barbosa a year earlier.
