The president of the Board of Extremadura, announced on Monday, after the meeting with the parliamentary groups, which if not, will call early elections. The head of the regional executive has transferred this message after the first contact with PSOE and joined by Extremadura, since Vox has not attended the meeting. “Extremadura cannot live pending political calculations or tensions,” said Guardiola.

Extremadura currently has the budgets of 2024 extended, since the Board of Extremadura failed to approve the accounts during this year by not having the support of any of the parties of the parliamentary arch. The Extremaduran PP rules for the first time in a minority after breaking the ultra -right.

The leader of the regional executive has remarked that “at all costs” cannot be governed and has defended: “before the government is our land.” Guardiola has affirmed that if the necessary tools are not available to continue with the policies of the current autonomic government, it will be the citizens who democratically decide which region model they want. “O Budgets for the future, or that the future is chosen by citizens,” Guardiola said.

From the Board of Extremadura they have reported that on Tuesday a proposal of the regulations of the Chamber will be registered in the Assembly so that the legislatures last four years, even in case of early elections. The objective, as explained, is to guarantee institutional stability and prevent key economic and social projects from being interrupted. “It is absurd that there are two elections in just over a year,” he said, in reference to a possible electoral advance in 2026 and the ordinary regional ones planned by 2027.

Guardiola has also reported that the Budget Law will be registered in the Assembly on October 15, with or without support from other groups, although it has insisted on its willingness to dialogue.

Despite political tensions, the president has defended her commitment to the “best possible accounts” for Extremadura and stressed that the planned calendar will be followed. It has encrypted the budget by 2026 in more than 8.6 billion euros, which represents an increase of 6.6% compared to the current one, and a 1.3% GDP growth forecast. In addition, the president has reported that the Minister of Finance, Elena Manzano, will be responsible for continuing negotiations with groups in bilateral meetings this week.

The meeting has been convened by the president at the regional government headquarters in Mérida to which PSOE members and joined by Extremadura have attended. In the case of the PSOE, its secretary general, Miguel Ángel Gallardo, but has done the parliamentary spokeswoman, Piedad Álvarez and the spokesman for the Treasury Jorge Amado.

Vox’s proposal

The Socialists consider this first contact disappointing and have lamented the lack of information from the Board about these future regional accounts. Álvarez has rejected the “threat” of elections as a political strategy and has claimed concrete figures to be able to submit proposals. The PSOE says that he is not afraid of any electoral advance and that, in any case, “the goodwill of the PSOE has been and will also be in this negotiation.

The spokeswoman for Extremadura, Irene de Miguel, has labeled “unacceptable blackmail” both the possibility of electoral advance and the reform of the regulation raised by the PP government. “Guardiola intends to change the regulation with Vox so that if there is advance in 2026, you do not have to repeat elections in 2027. That doubles electoral spending and breaks with institutional coherence,” said Miguel.

Since the Popular Party of Extremadura they have affirmed that in the meeting between the regional president and the parliamentary groups, predisposition by PSOE and United by Extremadura has been predisposed to approve the autonomous budgets by 2026 and have trusted that the general interest in the parties to carry out the accounts be put before. In any case, the popular spokesman, José Ángel Sánchez Juliá, has defended that there is no “to block Extremadura” and therefore has peeled the “constructive spirit” in the accounts negotiating process.

A meeting to which the Vox parliamentary group has not attended, since they refused to sit at the same table as the general secretary of the PSOE Extremadura, Miguel Angel Gallardo, for the open cause against hiring in the Badajoz Diputación of the brother of the president of the Government, David Sánchez.
