Among the points there is an amnesty provision for hamas members who depress weapons and the establishment of a provisional government
Julia Chaib and Victor Lacombe-At an important moment of the war in Gaza, about to turn two years old, US President Donald Trump received Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Monday, Netanyahu said he agreed with the proposal and threw pressure on the terrorist group Hamas, who said he had not yet received the document officially.
“I believe that today we are taking a critical step to end the war in Gaza and preparing the terrain to advance in peace in the Middle East. I support your plan to finish the war in Gaza,” said Netanyahu, alongside the American.
The statement was given to the press after the meeting between the leaders in the White House. According to Trump, if Hamas agree with the idea, the war should end immediately. Among the points there is amnesty provision for group members who depress weapons and the establishment of a provisional government.
Trump said he was “listening” that the faction also wants this to be resolved, but threatened. “If Hamas refuses the deal … this is possible, but I think they will accept. Otherwise, Israel will have my full support to do whatever it takes to destroy Hamas,” said the US president.
Shortly after the press statement, a Hamas official said the group had not yet received the written proposals. Netanyahu stressed that if Hamas does not support the plan, he will eliminate the group. “This can be easily or difficult,” said the Israeli prime minister.
The proposal presented that Trump will be the head of the “Peace Council”, which will also include the former United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair-in note, the British politician called the “brave and intelligent” plan. This organ would be responsible for supervising the future government of Gaza, which would temporarily commanded by a “Palestinian transition, technocratic and apolitical committee.” This collegiate would manage services in the territory.
“This organ will define the structure and take care of the financing for the reconstruction of Gaza, until the Palestinian authority concludes its reform program-composed in different initiatives, including Trump’s 2020 peace plan and the Saudi-Francesa proposal-and can reassure Gaza control safely and effectively,” says the Plan released by the White House.
The plan also provides that Gaza will be demilitarized and that no one will be forced to leave the region. “We will encourage people to stay and offer the opportunity to build a better Gaza,” says the plan. At other times, Trump even talked about forced civilians.
The American stated that this time, the countries are very close to reaching peace. “Israel will coexist with other peoples and countries in the region, from Syria to Lebanon to Saudi Arabia. This is the closest we’ve ever come to peace, real peace, not a foolish peace.”
“We hope that even Iran will be part of this agreement [de reconhecimento diplomático de Israel]. I think this is possible. We want to have good relations with Iran, ”continued the US President. Until the afternoon of Monday (29), the Tehran regime had not yet commented on Trump’s lines.
The American leader mentioned the demonstrations organized by hostage families in Israel. “For some reason, Bibi, they like me, I don’t know why,” he said of posters in the acts that ask for the republican intervention to end the war and recover the kidnapped. The hostage and missing families forum issued a statement with the Shehecheyanu prayer in response to the US President’s announcement, which expresses gratitude.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists killed about 1,200 Civilian Israeli and hijacked 251 people. Of this total, 47 still remain in Gaza, but 25 of these hostages are considered dead by the army of Israel.
Trump also criticized the decision of most countries to support the creation of the state of Palestine, contrary to what US and Israel argue. Last week, dozens of delegations, including Brazil, left the plenary of the United Nations General Assembly before Netanyahu’s speech.
“Netanyahu was very clear about his opposition to a Palestinian state, and I respect that, but what the prime minister is doing now is very, very important for Israel.”
Prior to the press statement, the White House also reported that Netanyahu called Trump to Qatar Prime Minister Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman, and apologized for the attack in Doha in early September. The Israeli Premier stated that the action will not be repeated, according to the American statement.
