A new US agreement proposed by the Gaza range presents, for the first time, the possibility of amnesty for Hamas members who abandon their weapons and commit to peace in the region. Ana Carolina Marson, Professor of International Relations at FESPSP, explained the release of the agreement in the CNN Prime Time.

Including two unpublished elements: In addition to the conditional amnesty for Hamas members, it foresees the creation of a Gaza transition government, which would be supervised by a US -leading peace council. This last measure arises in a context of growing international gaza recognition as a state.

According to the porofessor, the viability of the agreement faces important obstacles. . In addition, the proposed conditions may not meet the demands of the group, which traditionally operates outside conventional boundaries of state negotiations.

The history of previous ceasefire attempts also raises questions about the effectiveness of the agreement. Israel has already abandoned previous proposals of truce, and statements from both the United States and Israel indicate that,.

The proposal comes at a time of growing international pressure, especially after manifestations at the UN General Assembly, where several countries expressed support for Gaza’s recognition as a state. Although the agreement does not directly address the solution of two states, it represents a significant change in the approach of peace negotiations to the region.
