The European Union will allocate two billion euros to Drone Drone Delivery to Ukraine. Von Der Leyen announced a long -term support plan involving a reparation loan tied to frozen Russian assets.

Brussels, 30 September 30 (TASR) – The European Union will allocate billions of euros for drone supplies for Ukraine, the President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von Der Leyen announced on Tuesday. TASR reports this according to the EC press statement.

“Specifically, Ukraine and I have agreed that a total of two billion euros will be spent on drones,” Von der Leyen said in a joint statement with NATO Secretary -General Mark Rutte. According to Politico, this is the most specific step of the Union to strengthen the combat capacity of Kiev through unmanned systems.

“This allows Ukraine to expand its capacities and use them to the fullest, and of course it will also allow the European Union to benefit from this technology,” said von Der Leyen.

At the same time, the President of the EC outlined a plan for long -term support for Ukraine, which also includes a “reparation loan” linked to frozen Russian assets in Europe worth EUR 140 billion.

The loan would be released in tranches with conditions, while part of the funds would be reserved for the purchase of military equipment from the European industry, she added. According to Politic, her statements follow the words of German office Friedrich Merza published last week in the Financial Times.

Von der Leyen stressed that the use of frozen Russian assets does not mean confiscation and Kiev would repay the loan if Russia pays war reparations. At present, only revenues from these assets are used to support Ukraine, Belga explains.

The EC President wants to get support at Wednesday’s informal EU leaders’ summit in Copenhagen. Politico recalls that the proposal is rejected by Hungary, but also Belgium. Most frozen assets – approximately € 170 billion – are located in Euroclear in Brussels. Belgium rejects the intention for concerns about arbitration actions and one day it would be forced to return the money.
