The (Superior Military Court) holds this Thursday (30.SET.2025), at 17h, the minister’s inauguration ceremony, in the plenary of the Court, in Brasilia.
With possession, Veronica becomes the 2nd woman in the history of 217 years of the STM to join the Court. The 1st was Minister Maria Elizabeth Rocha, sworn in 2007 and current president of the Court, elected in December 2024.

The ceremony will be attended by the President (PT) and the Vice-President (PSB). In addition to them, the Ministers of the Supreme Federal Court) Dias Toffoli, Alexandre de Moraes, Flávio Dino and Cristiano Zanin participate; the Minister of Defense, José Múcio; and the president of (Brazilian Bar Association), Beto Simonetti.
They also attend the congressmen and representatives of civil society entities, such as the (Union of Women Lawyers) and the National Women’s Coalition.
The new minister occupies the vacancy destined for law, open with the retirement of Minister José Coêlho Ferreira, in April this year. His nomination was, International Women’s Day, and after Sabbath in the (Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Commission) and 51 favorable votes and 16 against.
Veronica Abdalla Sterman holds a law graduate from PUC-SP (Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo), with a specialization in Economic Criminal Law from FGV (Getulio Vargas Foundation).
It also has a postgraduate degree in the same area by (Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences), held in partnership with (Portugal). Its trajectory is marked by the performance prominent in law.
