Cruzeiro do Sul records more than 300 accidents and eight traffic deaths in 2025

By 2025, Cruzeiro do Sul already counts 306 traffic accidents and eight deaths, according to data from the Acre State Traffic Department (Detran). The number of occurrences is lower than the same period last year, when 330 accidents were recorded. However, the deaths increased: by 2024 until August, there were six deaths, while this year there are eight.

For the purpose of state statistics, only seven deaths enter the records of Detran and City Hall, as one of the cases occurred on BR-307, an excerpt of federal liability, between BR-364 and the road of the variant.

With an estimated population of 91,000 inhabitants, Cruzeiro do Sul has a fleet of 46,200 vehicles, considered high for the size of the city. Detran CEO Tainara Martins says the recklessness of drivers is the main factor for claims.

“We have more than 92% of accidents really caused by recklessness. It is not just about human failure, but of conduct such as overtaking red sign, disrespecting signplays or speeding, which has made many victims here in Cruzeiro do Sul,” he said.

She points out that the reduction of numbers also depends on driver awareness:

“Each victim who dies in traffic leaves a gap not only for the family, but also for traffic agencies. All life matters. We are conducting training courses for police and agents, but we need to go further, with the support of society and educational actions.”

Detran conducts quarterly studies on the behavior of Cruzeiro drivers and maintains signaling campaigns, educational blitz and inspections.

The victims of 2025

• January: Cleilson de Oliveira, 30, died five days after a car and motorcycle accident in the Technical School neighborhood.
• May 13: Alicélio Campos died in a motorcycle collision with vehicle on BR-307, Old Road of the airport.
• May 17: Military policeman Paulo Dênis do Nascimento Ferreira, 34, died after an accident between his motorcycle and a car.
• June 16: Victor Runário Silva Lima, 22, died after colliding with a horse on the variant road near BR-364.
• July 15: Thierry Almeida de Oliveira, 22, lost control of the motorcycle and hit a power pole in the Aeroporto Velho neighborhood.
• August 4: Francisco Cordeiro de Paula, 53, died in a motorcycle accident in the Cruzeirão neighborhood.
• August 15: Tawana Souza Silva, 20, died after nine days admitted to the Juruá Regional Hospital, victim of accident.
• August 31: Emanuel Oliveira da Silva, 18, fell from his bike and was hit by a car on the AC-405 highway.

Despite the reduction in the number of accidents compared to last year, authorities reinforce that the increase in deaths are concerned and requires greater responsibility for traffic from drivers and cyclists.
