The CNB (National Boxing Council) announced the punishment of six people involved in the beating on Saturday night (28), after the boxing fight between Popó and Wanderlei Silva, in São Paulo. The two competitors are among the suspended, in their case for 180 days.
The entity also included Iago Freitas (180 days), Lucas Silva (90 days), Luis Claudio Freitas (180 days) and André “Dida” Amado (365 days) on the list of sanctioned. Others involved, according to the board, are not athletes or licensed, so they cannot be formally punished.
CNB leaders have announced, however, that they will recommend banning their entry into the events they sanctioned. And they said they will notify partner entities for suspensions to be valid “in the context of other combat sports.”
The confusion was at the end of an event sponsored by the Spaten beer brand. Popó and Wanderlei Silva had a fight with a maximum forecast of eight robberies, which ended in the fourth: Silva was disqualified for reaching the opponent with heads.
The teams of the two combatants then rose in the ring. There was great confusion, during which one of the sons of Popó, Rafael Freitas, struck a hard blow to Wanderlei Silva, who was knocked out, was unconscious and hospitalized. Popó had to undergo surgery in his hand.
