Philippines: earthquake 6.9 Richter – five dead

6.7 degrees was recorded in the Euro -Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).

According to the Philipinosian Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), it hit the city of Bogo in Sebo. The epicenter of the earthquake was 17 kilometers north of the city. The earthquake was of tectonic origin and was 10 kilometers deep.

Five dead

According to local police, five people were killed in the 6.9 -magnitude earthquake that hit the central Philippines on Tuesday night.

“We have five confirmed deaths,” police officer Felipe Campague said in the city as Remizio, adding that he has no more information on the identity of the victims.

The earthquake hit an area north of the island of Sebos on Tuesday at 21.59 local time (15.59 hours of Greece), causing damage to buildings and roads and power outages.

The Local Seismological Service warned earlier of a possible “slight rise in sea level” and urged the residents of the central islands of Leight, Sebu and Biliran to “stay away from the beach and not go to the coast”.

The epicenter of the earthquake was found about 11 kilometers east-east of the city of Kalape, in the province of Bochol, which has about 33,000 inhabitants.

The Pacific Tsunami Alert Center said that “there is no threat to a tsunami from this earthquake” and that “no measures are needed”.

The provincial government of Sebu announced the collapse of a building with shops and a school in Badayan, as well as damage to several villages.
