O National Boxing Council (CNB) announced on Tuesday (09/30) the 180-day suspension for fighters Wanderlei Silva and Aceino Popó Freitasafter the widespread turmoil occurred at the end of the Spaten Fight Night 2, held last Saturday (27/09) in São Paulo. Both are prohibited from participating in any event sanctioned by the entity during the suspension period.
The combat between former athletes, initially programmed as a display, was interrupted in the fourth round after Wanderlei Silva accumulates three warnings for infractions, including headquarters. The disqualification of the former MMA fighter generated an immediate reaction from his team, resulting in a widespread fighting in the ring.
During the riot, Popó’s son Rafael Freitas struck a blow that knocked out Wanderlei Silva, who had to be hospitalized because of a nose fracture. Popó, in turn, also had to undergo surgery and operated his hand.
In addition to Popó and Wanderlei suspensions, the CNB reported that other sanctions are being evaluated for others involved, including team members and event organizers. Former MMA folding Fabricio Werdum of the Wanderlei Silva team is among the names in the target. He also exchanged punches during the confusion.
Popó fight at FMS 7 canceled
With the suspension of Popó until March 29, 2026 and his boxer’s surgery, his boxing fight against former BBB Diego German at the Fight Music Show 7 event, scheduled for November 1st, was canceled.
The Fight Music Show 7, however, follows firm and will be at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium in São Paulo, with ten fights. For the place of Popó, the organization of the event opened social networking post and asked what would be the favorite name of the public.
The names listed were: Minotouro, Tyson Tigre, Jorge “El Chino”, Rey Physique, Yuri Fernandes, Vitor Capial, Guto Galamba, Rafinha and Poor Loco. There was also the option for fans to write other names.
