The General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) agreed on Tuesday to open a file to Judge Manuel Ruiz de Lara, and referred to the wife of the President of the Government, Begoña Gómez, as “Barbigoña.” The Permanent Commission has rejected on Wednesday the proposal of the disciplinary authority, who had agreed to the archive of the investigation opened to the judge, and has urged him to investigate whether the judge has incurred a lack of inconsideration, provided for in the article. 418.5 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary (LOPJ). The measure, according to sources of the organ, has come forward with the vote of the progressive members and the quality vote of the president, Isabel Perelló.

Ruiz de Lara, head of the Commercial Court 11 of Madrid, has been launching furibunda criticism against Pedro Sánchez, his ministers, progressive magistrates of the Constitutional Court, the State Attorney General or media and journalists. In November 2023 he erased his X (formerly Twitter) account after the country echoed several of his messages in which he called Sánchez “Psychopath without ethical limits” and “Pathological Liar.” The CGPJ, which at that time had the mandate extended for five years and was led by a conservative majority, opened a file, but that it had not been accredited that the judge invoked or served his status as a judge to disseminate said comments.
