The president of the, met on Tuesday (30) with the deputy (Solidarity-SP) to deal with the bill that forgives convicted by the scammer acts and, according to participants of the meeting, signaled openness to a text that means reduction of penalties, not amnesty.
The phrase of (PL) president’s president was, according to these people, that he could not be against a project that means the release of people now attached by attacks on the headquarters of the three powers on January 8, 2023.
The signaling from the party’s most graduated leader contrasts with the public discourse of pockets that it accepts nothing less than the “broad, general and unrestricted amnesty”, including Bolsonaro and the other seven convicted of joining the scammer’s summit.
At the exit of the meeting, Paulinho – which is the rapporteur of the text in the House – and the leader of the PL bench, Sostenes Cavalcante (RJ), gave an interview in which they reaffirmed the positions already defended previously, without signaling that there is, for now, agreement.
Paulinho again said that he seeks a text that meets the average opinion of the House and results in reduced penalties, not amnesty. Sostenes again said that the party defends the broad amnesty, but is open to conversations with Paulinho, even in order to try to convince him to embrace the idea.
Behind the scenes, members of the PL favorable to an agreement around the reduction of penalties say that the biggest problem is not in politicians, but in the most radical militancy and the family of prisoners.
They cite polishing among these family members in which, according to the association that represents them, more than 80% rejected reduction of penalties and release of prisoners only, mostly defending the amnesty that not only releases family members, but that leaves the criminal record clean of these convictions. Some, say parliamentarians, would be claiming even indemnity collection to the state.
Jair Bolsonaro’s allies say he would be in accordance with a feather reduction project ,. They say the former president is weakened and wants to avoid going to a closed regime as much as possible.
Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison at the trial of the coup plot. Another seven defendants were convicted.
About 1,200 people were held responsible in the Supreme Court for acts of January 8, 2023. Balance sheet released by the Court in August reported that on that date 29 people were pre -trial and 112 served definitive prison – other 44 were under house arrest.
After meeting with the PSD bench, also this Tuesday, Paulinho also said that the project can enter the voting agenda of the House Plenary next week.
Asked about the imbroglio between Chamber and Senate, which he called war and that it turned out to be another barrier to the advancement of his text, the rapporteur said he was in charge of articulating the approval of the project with the neighboring house.

Early in the evening, Paulinho met with Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), who had stated that the reduction of amnesty penalties is not enough.
On the way out, Flávio repeated that the proposal to reduce penalties does not serve him and that the party will present amendment to Paulinho’s text to try to approve the broad amnesty.

Only after this last round of meetings, should Paulinho present his text, which he says can happen this week, but more likely the next.
Paulinho also stated that he asked for a meeting with former Minister José Dirceu (PT) to deal with the matter.
After the PSD meeting, bench leader Antonio Brito (BA) said his party needs to wait for the text to be completed to define a favorable or opposite position, but argued that the issue advances in the house and is completed, “as is the desire of our President Hugo Motta and the college of leaders.”
