The Government of São Paulo sent a letter to the Director General of (National Electric Energy Agency), asking for an urgent reevaluation of the rules of the governor’s frequent criticism (Republicans).

The document is signed by the Secretaries of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics, Natália Resende, and investment partnerships, Rafael Benini.

In the evaluation of state management, the review is necessary in the face of significant losses to consumers, as there is a misalignment between regulatory indicators and the reality of the population.

One of the main criteria to be evaluated by Aneel in the decision to renew or not the concession, which wins in 2028, is the fulfillment of the goals.

The secretaries argue that it only predicts parameters based on the duration and average frequency would not be sufficient to guarantee the quality of service.

Therefore, there would be the need to adopt stricter rules that would have weight in the decision on renewal of the concession.

The measure comes in the wake of criticism of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas at the service of the company. Last week, he said that

In a statement, Enel states that the criteria of the decree for early renewal of concessions are the same as those established for all energy distributors in the country. In addition, he says that he has “performed a series of initiatives to increasingly improve the service provided to the population.”

The company cites a significant reduction in the average customer service time last summer and argues that the indicator follows in the trajectory of improvement this year.

Enel also mentions hiring professionals and expansion of generators to meet critical cases, as well as reinforcement of the teams for emergency care.

“Enel is investing a record amount of funds throughout the concession area, which reinforces the distribution’s commitment to the continuous improvement of the service provided to its more than 8 million customers,” he continues. “For the 2025-2027 period, the company will invest R $ 10.4 billion, focusing on automation, reinforcement and network expansion. Only by 2024, R $ 2.1 billion were invested, a 30% increase over the previous year.”
