Drone attacks, frozen Russian assets and air defense. These were topics that the media before the Copenhagen Informal Meeting of the European Council was named the most important ones. However, Slovakia did not sit at the table. Prime Minister Robert Fico from Bratislava did not leave and the twenty -seven of the Union was incomplete. Reason – health problems.
But there was no Budapest at the table. And the match did not come to the majority of the agenda. Neither 140 billion frozen Russian assets for Ukraine nor further steps of the drone wall. In the article we are approaching the Copenhagen meeting of the Council, which eventually did not bring any major breakthroughs.
Who represented Slovakia?
He had an agenda prepared and on Thursday he was to meet one of the top leaders of Europe, German office Friedrich Merz. Finally, he did not leave Bratislava. The Slovak Prime Minister canceled participation in the informal meeting of the European Council. It is not yet clear who of the Prime Ministers of the Union Slovakia represented at the summit. The Office of the Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not bring more light to the representation of our country.
According to Diary N, we are represented during Wednesday’s summit or the Czech Republic, which was represented in Copenhagen by Prime Minister Petr Fiala. “If it was necessary for someone to represent us there, we certainly ensured it so that someone represented us there and represented us in an adequate way,” said Direction deputy Ján Mažgút in the TA3 discussion session. He did not provide any further information.
The government was criticized by former Foreign Minister and today a member of the Presidency of Progressive Slovakia Ivan Korčok. “Until now, the government has presented very confusing attitudes, only when it was considered when the Protidron’s defense on the Eastern Wing of NATO was not even asked to be part of it. It is absolutely crucial for the government to take a clear opinion on this matter,” Korčok said.
Four hours
EU leaders, together with Ursula von der Leyen and the President of the European Council Diego Cost, met at the Christiansborg Palace, Copenhagen. According to the Brussels website, Politico behind closed doors up to twice as much as they planned. They spoke mainly about Ukraine and safety.
The possibility of lending Ukraine to borrow 140 billion euros of frozen Russian assets. For the time being, however, they remain “in the freezer”. The Belgian financial institution Euroclear should be provided for Ukrainians. The head of the Belgian cabinet was one of the most careful participants in the Council in this proposal. It would be Belgium, which would bear the greatest burden of any Russian legal action.
After the summit, the chairwoman of the Commission von der Leyen tried to calm Belgium and “other countries” that, according to the Commission plan, the assets would not be seized and that the risks of the financial transfer must be spread “into wider shoulders”.
Drone network of the commission?
On the table during the informal summit was the hottest theme of the drone wall against the Russian drone. However, the debate, like Russian frozen assets, did not move further after the summit. The proposal of the Commission for Simplifying Investments in the European Defense Industry related to the wall was taken over. However, according to Politic, the states insisted that they have a greater say in the proposals of the Commission.
Meetings of European twenty -seven states with the head of European diplomacy Kaja Kallas on this topic will take place. For now, it is not clear how the so -called drone wall will be coordinated. France and Germany were skeptical to the wall managed by the Commission, while the southern countries, according to Politic, are promoting a sort of wider concept that would also protect their borders.
The NATO Defense Ministers’ Online Meeting on the Defense Against Drone Project took place last Friday. It was also attended by Turkey, which is not a member country of the Union and Slovakia, which initially was not part of the debate on the drone wall.
