In its statement, the Palestinian militant group Hamas denied any connection with three men detained in Germany to suspect planning attacks on Jewish and Israeli institutions. She described the accusations of detention to Hamas as “completely unfounded”. TASR informs about this, referring to AFP.

The police had previously announced that on Wednesday, at the order of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, they had detained three expected members of the Palestinian militant Hamas, who allegedly acquired weapons on possible attacks on Israeli or Jewish institutions in Germany. The police have secured functional weapons, including the Glock gun, the AK-47 offensive rifle and several hundred charges that are explored by forensic experts.

The detainees are 36-year-old Germany of Lebanese descent, a 43-year-old man born in Lebanon of unknown nationality and a 44-year-old German of Syrian origin. According to the prosecutor’s office, Hamas commissioned them to obtain weapons and ammunition in Germany’s attacks on Jewish and Israeli goals.

Weapons confiscated

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has accused this three men of membership in a foreign terrorist organization and the preparation of serious violent acts threatening the state. At the same time, on Thursday, the Federal Court will ask for the issue of the suspects.

The detention was also confirmed by the German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, according to which he managed to avert a “terrorist threat”. He further stated that a few months ago a German man suspected of terrorism, which was known to have contacts to Hamas, joined the territory of Germany. Since then, this person has been monitored, trying to get weapons and ammunition to make an attack. The Minister confirmed that weapons and ammunition were confiscated.

“We assume that this threat was real,” Dobrindt said. However, the suspects were able to detain in time. The weekly Der Spiegel said that shortly after the raid in Berlin, there were also tours of residential areas in Leipzig.

It is not the first arrests of the expected Hamas members at the order of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office: for example, in December 2023, three men in Berlin and one in Rotterdam were detained at her initiative, who reportedly worked as foreign operators of Hamas for years, where they held important positions with direct links to his military wing leaders. The process with these suspects is still ongoing.
