(Porriño, Pontevedra, 43 years) and (Huelva, 51 years) have been awarded this Thursday, October 2 with the National Dance Awards endowed with 30,000 euros each. The jury stands out as Novás, recognized in the modality of interpretation, “the technical excellence and the great magnetism of their work.” From Weickert, winner of this award in the modality of creation, the jury wanted to point out “The fascinating show Light on things (the latest creation of the artist), which confirms the strength of a trajectory ”, as stated in the press release issued by the National Institute of Performing Arts (INAEM), a public body in charge of these distinctions.
Janet Novás, who, for his role in the , by director Jaione Camborda, treasures an interpretive career in the world of dance as solid as the one as choreographer. In this sense, I would not have missed that the National Dance Award be made in the creation modality. But it has been his facet as a dancer “axis that holds and enhances her choreographic speech”, which the jury wanted to highlight.
Formed in contemporary dance in Madrid, Brussels and Berlin, as an interpreter has danced in renowned companies such as and provisional dance, among others. In 2008 he began to create and interpret his own dance shows, always marked by a deep and very personal body research, in which winks are discovered to the Galician folklore with which he grew up. Some of his latest works are Who Will Save Me Today? (2013), If I could talk about this, I wouldn’t do this (2016), Where Is Janet? (2022) y Proto (SN1806) (2023). In 2018 with the singer, one of her most successful works premiered, Mercedes More I (Mercedes and me), which seven years later continues in some billboards.
At present, he alternates his work as a dancer, creator and actress with that of the teacher, teaching and workshops in different centers of Spain, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
Guillermo Weickert, awarded in the creation modality, has developed a trajectory marked by dance and theater. Formed in both disciplines at the Teatro de Sevilla Institute and in the Andalusian Dance Center, respectively, its creations cover contemporary dance, physical theater and performance at the same time. In 2001 he founded his own company and has released recognized assemblies such as Go With The Flow, Flammable material, Days happen y Lily between thorns. The jury wanted to focus on his last work, Light on thingswith which he is currently touring, for “the quality and originality of a fascinating choreography in its use of light and space, which connects with the perception of the body and the creative freedom of the choreographer, director and dancer,” as can be read in the press release issued by the public body.
The jury of this 2025 edition of the National Dance Awards has been formed by Alberto Estébanez Rodríguez, professor, dancer and choreographer; Javier Cuevas, artistic director of the La Caldera Dance Creation Center; Daniel Abreu, dancer and choreographer; Manuel Llanes, cultural manager specialized in contemporary theater and dance; Rosalía Gómez Muñoz, journalist and dance critic; Rosa San Segundo, Spanish researcher and university professor (on behalf of the University and Gender Studies University Platform) and Luz Arcas ,.
