The percentage of Brazilians who claim to have indebted due to spending on online bets more than doubled in 11 months, according to a survey powerdate. In October 2024, only 16% of gamblers said they were indebted. The index reached 35% in September 2025.

The data was measured among the group of 36% of voters who declared already betting on digital platforms. In this universe, 51% said they had not contracted debt and 14% preferred not to respond.

The survey shows that vulnerability is greater among certain profiles. Among men, 43% declared debt with bets, above proportion of the overall average.

Among voters with only complete elementary school, the rate was 42%. Already among those with income of up to two minimum wages, 40% said they were indebted due to spending on the so -called Bets.

Despite the fiscal advantage, with the billionaire revenue guaranteed by regulation, the federal government has sought to mitigate side effects of the sector’s advancement.

Among the measures already adopted are the creation of an action plan to protect gamblers, with initiatives aimed at mental health; the implementation of a self -execution system, which allows the user to block their own access to all authorized sites; and the prohibition that beneficiaries of Bolsa Familia and the Continuing Benefit Benefit (BPC) use accounts to make bets.

The Powerful research was conducted from September 27 to 29, 2025 with 2,500 people in 178 municipalities, distributed in the 27 Federation Units. The error margin is 2 percentage points, more or less.
