Two regional Air Lines regional aircraft collided on the LAGUARDIA airport taxi track in New York on Wednesday night with the wing of one aircraft reaching the other’s cabin windows.
The two aircraft involved in the “low-speed collision” were regional jets CRJ-900 operated by the Regional Company Endeavor Air, according to a statement from.
Flight 5047 had just arrived from the city of Charlotte, in the US state of North Carolina, when the wing of flight 5155, which was preparing to take off for Roanoke, Virginia, collided with the nose of the aircraft.
“We have two CRJs on the MC taxia track that collided,” said the Radio Flight pilot to the audio soil controller recorded by the Liveatc.net site. “Their right wing has hit our nose and the windshields of the booth.”
Flight 5155 pilot reported that a flight attendant injured his knee in the collision, according to the audio of air traffic control. One person was taken to the hospital, according to the port authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport. No one else was injured.
“Delta will work with all relevant authorities to analyze what happened, because the security of our customers and people come first. We apologize to our customers for the experience,” the airline said in a statement.
Charlotte’s flight had 57 passengers on board and the flight to Roanoke, 28, said Delta. They were taken to the bus terminal and received lodging in a hotel and meals.
The port authority states that the incident did not impact the operations of the airport.
