We are now closer to having operational flying taxis

Archer Aviation’s Midnight Evtool has hit its own record and can now fly “in Cruzeiro”, the 2100 -meter altitude and a speed of 190 kilometers per hour.

An electric take -off and vertical landing aircraft (electric Vertical Take-Off and LandingEvtol) nicknamed “Midnight” completed its highest flight ever, reaching an altitude of 2100 metros.

During the test flight, Midnight reached velocities greater than 193 kilometers per hour and traveled 72 km.

Archer Aviation expects the aircraft to become in a “Electric air taxis”.

According to the company in, the vehicle is fueled by batteries that contain numerous lithium -ion cells and can carry a pilot along with passengers and luggage.

Unlike commercial aircraft, which usually fly in Cruzeiro (phase of a flight where the aircraft reaches its ideal altitude and speed) to altitudes between 9000 to 13000 meters above sea level, Evtols like Midnight is intended to operate in urban environments, in a range of 450 to 1200 meters.

But Midnight’s ability to fly at an altitude of 2100 would allow to operate in Cities with great density of skyscraperswithout the need to make expensive deviations.

This milestone also facilitates access to cities located at higher altitudesas well as mountainous destinations and other high altitude locations that would otherwise be inaccessible to EvTol.

As Evtols, Drones, and other low altitude aircraft become more common, the louder flying ability will be a significant advantage; Besides, of course, it will help to avoid the type of land block that the EvTol were originally designed to circumvent.

EvTols are capable of make trips in minutes that would take hours in a land vehicle.

As highlighted, the successful test flight points out one more step toward the company’s goal of obtaining the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Federal Administration certification, which would mean Midnight was legally authorized to operate within the US air system.
