British police reported on Friday that it may have accidentally hit two victims, including one who died during his attempts to control an attack on a Synagogue in Manchester on Yom Kippur, the sacred day of the Jewish calendar.

In Thursday’s attack, two men, Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, were killed after a Syrian British man drove a car against pedestrians and then began to stab several people outside the Hebrew Hebrew Congregation synagogue in Manchester.

The attacker, who was shot dead by armed police at the scene, was not carrying a firearm, said Greater Manchester police chief Steve Watson, although one of the dead suffered a bullet injury.

“Therefore, this wound may have been suffered as a tragic and unforeseen consequence of the urgently necessary action taken by my police to end this cruel attack,” Watson said in a statement.

Watson said it is believed that another believer has suffered a bullet injury, without life-threatening, and that it is possible that the two victims were together behind the synagogue door, while the faithful tried to prevent the aggressor from entering.

Police identified the aggressor as Jihad Al-Shamie, 35, and said they found no record indicating that he had been sent to the government’s anti-ranalization program.

The British government has promised to redouble its efforts to combat anti -Semitism.

On Friday, Prime Minister Keir Strmer visited the scene of the attack and talked to members of the Jewish community. He did not make any public statement, but said earlier that Al-Shamie wanted to “attack the Jews because they are Jews.”
