Feminist and trade union activist Camille Senon, who escaped the Nazi massacre in the village of Oradour-Sur-Glane in Central France, died on Thursday at the age of 100informed the office of the mayor. According to the AFP report, TASR reports this.

Senon worked in Limoges and returned to her native village on 10 June 1944, when the SS troops invaded Oradour-Sur-Glane. They killed 642 inhabitants, including her entire family.

“What I then saw is hard to describe. There was no one living soul,” added. Most of the victims were women and children. It only escaped because of chance. After the defeat of Nazi Germany and the liberation of France, Senon joined the CGT trade union and entered the Communist Party. In the trade union movement, which was dominated by men, she worked on the forefront of one of the CGT sections in Paris. She was also involved in the associations of the families of the victims of Nazism.

Senon described herself as a “eternal rebel” and has never surrendered to women’s rights during her life. “When I started working … women still had to ask their boss for a marriage permission! Mizogynia and daily sexism were everywhere, even in trade unions,” explained Senon.

“It is important to remind young people not to compromise their values ​​and remain optimistic at all times,” she said. “For even though the world we encounter is disturbing, life has shown me that there is never time to despair,” added Senon.
