This Wednesday (02/10), Gabigol and Filipe Luís meet againafter years of living in Flamengo, where they were teammates and, later, player and coach. The reunion is a chapter part of the duel between Flamengo and Cruzeiro, in Maracanã.
Gabigol and Filipe Luís were cast companions between July 2019 and December 2023, when the side retired. Both had great friendship. However, the relationship changed from the moment Filipe Luís took over Flamengo as a coach in October 2024. In participation in the Podpah podcast in December 2024, Gabigol recalled the last conversation he had with Philip Louis before his departure from Flamengo.
– We now had the last review, before the last game he came to talk to me. I told him that I wanted the last game to end soon for us to be a friend again (laughs). It changes a lot. The charges, the videos, the day to day. There was no joke anymore, it was just good morning, good afternoon. During training, he treated me well, giving confidence, and this generated me a huge confidence that I could translate in the final (of the Brazilian Cup). Then I scored the goals for him. It’s paid, Felipinho – said the striker.
Gabigol also detailed a discussion with Filipe Luís during the first game of the Brazilian Cup final, won by Flamengo 3-1 against Atletico-MG in Maracanã. The striker explained that the confusion happened by divergence in a depth move:
– We fought, we fought. This is too normal for us to fight. There was a bid that the ball was on the side and he likes the attackers to give depth. But the Arrascaeta passed in front of me and went. Then I got more. When I looked at the bank, he was saying I was hiding. Then I cursed him. In the other ball I went and scored the goal – revealed.
Despite the moments of tension, Gabigol spared no praise for the former partner and coach. The striker projected the future of Filipe Luís, highlighting his capacity as a technician:
– The best coach in Brazil. No doubt. Next coach of the Brazilian team. He can look at the player, understand the best he has and put it on the team. Flamengo has the best in Brazil, and he can improve even more.

The striker’s performance against Flamengo is balanced. There are eight clashes: two wins, four draws and two losses. In addition to the goal for Cruzeiro this year, Gabigol had shook the net in 2018, when he defended Santos.
