The Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg formally signed the act of abdication this Friday (3), ending almost 25 years on the throne.
The eldest son, heir Guillaume, became the new Grand Duke after the ceremony.
Royalty and heads of state from neighboring countries attended the ceremony.
The action placed the small country in Western Europe, with a population of just over half a million inhabitants, in evidence.
