Israel’s forces detained and removed dozens of activists-including Swedish, former Barcelona mayor Ada Colau and Brazilian federal deputy Luizianne Lins (PT-CE)-from the flotilla that tried to break the Israeli block to Gaza to bring help to the region.

Activists said they hoped the large number of boats would make it difficult for them to intercept all by the Israeli authorities, but the Foreign Ministry of Israel declared the end of the operation on Thursday.

The Global Sumud flotilha has been the largest so far trying to break the block, and the operation occurs in a moment of growing criticism of Israel’s conduct in Gaza.
