The Israeli Armed Forces intercepted the last boat of a flotilla carrying humanitarian aid that was trying to reach Gaza blocked on Friday, a day after stopping most ships and stops about 450 activists, including Swedish Greta Thunberg.
The organizers of the Global Sumud flotilha said that the vessel, Marinette, was intercepted on Friday morning about 79km from Gaza. The Israeli army radio said the Navy had taken control of the last flotilla ship, detained those on board and that the ship was being taken to the Port of Ashdod in Israel.
In a statement, the Global Sumud flotilla said that Israeli naval forces had “illegally intercepted all our 42 ships – each carrying humanitarian aid, volunteers and the determination of breaking Israel’s illegal siege to Gaza.”

A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel did not immediately respond to a request for commentary on the situation of the ship. The ministry said on Thursday that the only remaining ship of the flotilla would be prevented from breaking the block if it tried.
Flotilha, which saved in late August, marked a high level of opposition to Israel’s blockade to the Enclave, almost two years after the Israeli offensive in Gaza, which was triggered by Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023.
The Israeli authorities repeatedly denounced the mission as a blow. The Israeli Navy had already warned the flotilla that she was approaching an active combat zone and violating a legal blockade, and asked the organizers to change the course. She had offered to transfer any help peacefully to Gaza through safe channels.
