Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets in the this Friday (3) in a national strike in support of the humanitarian flotilla to and in protest against the posture of the government of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in the face of blocking to Palestinian territory. The mobilization was convened by unions after interception, the Israeli Navy, the Global Sumud flotilha, who tried to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza. Among the vessel members were dozens of Italians, including four deputies and MEPs, which were released on Friday.
In Rome, students and teachers marched together. “We went to the streets today to express our disagreement. It is a civic duty to show indignation with what is happening in the world, support the flotilla and, especially, the people of Gaza who is being massacred,” said student Giordano Fioramonti, 19. In addition to solidarity with Palestine, protesters also criticized the absence of a firmer position of Meloni regarding Israel’s actions in the conflict. To date, the Prime Minister has avoided public criticism of Tel Aviv.
