President Lula says there will be no shortage of accommodation in Belém to receive the participants of COP30

President Luiz Inácio da Silva stated, on Friday (3), that there will be no shortage of accommodations in to receive the participants of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change of 2025 (), which takes place next month in the capital of Pará. Lula said he does not want luxury himself and will find a boat to sleep during the days of the event.

“I will want to sleep on the boat, there is still no boat, but I will find a boat, which I go to sleep on the boat. Because I do not want to come to participate in this cop because this COP has to be the COP of Truth. So far we are making a lot of decisions and has not fulfilled the decisions we make,” said Lula about the international commitments over the years in combating climate change.

According to the president, in addition to the hotel chain, residents of the city are leaving their homes and renting for the conference delegations. “The people of Belém are extraordinarily loving and kind. There are a lot of people leaving their homes and renting a house for those who want to come. As is done in Santa Catarina in summer; 1,2 million Argentines go to Santa Catarina and the people of Santa Catarina leave the house to rent for Argentines,” he recalled.

Given the discharge of accommodation prices in Belém, at values far above those practiced in other seasons, several authorities and delegations expressed concern about a possible reduction of appearances in the event, especially civil society and representatives of poorer countries. As a result, the United Nations () organization also increased the value of lodging aid for these countries, from $ 144 to $ 197 a day. In addition, the Brazilian organization made available 2,500 individual rooms with subsidized values, between $ 100 and $ 600.

About 45,000 people are expected to participate in COP30 and the government had to expand the 18,000 hotel beds normally available in Belém. For this, two cruise ships will be used as temporary hotels, which together have approximately 3,900 cabins with up to 6,000 beds.

Belém will also win three high -end hotels, built by international groups, and partnerships have been made with virtual rental platforms to increase the offer of available rooms.
