New Balance points to seven dead in school in Indonesia

According to an official count, 59 people are still trapped under the rubble

The death toll due to the collapse of an Islamic school on Monday in Indonesia rose this Friday to seven, after the rescue teams found two more bodies under the rubble.

The teams found the bodies of two students this morning, said director of search and rescue operations, Yudhi Bramantyo, adding that “both are boys.”

“This raises the total number of victims found dead to seven,” said the leader.

According to an official count, 59 people are still stuck under the rubble.

On Thursday, the director of the National Disaster Management Agency Indonesia, Suharyanto, admitted that no life signs were detected under the rubble of the school.

“We used high -tech equipment such as thermal drones, and there were no signs of life. We had given time to the joint team [de busca] Until this morning if there were signs of life, but there were none, “Suharyanto said at a press conference.

The leader indicated that the team decided to advance to the next phase of searches with heavy equipment. One crane was working to remove the rubble, and four more were expected at the scene, he added.

However, Suharyanto expressed hope that not all of these missing people will be under the rubble, citing the case of a woman who mourned her son’s death and then found that he was safe.

On Wednesday, five survivors and two bodies were removed from the rubble of the Islamic School 30 kilometers from the city of Surabaya in the east of Java Island, raising the death toll to five.

The structure fell on hundreds of people, mostly teenagers, who held Monday afternoon prayers in a hall in a centenary Islamic boarding school, Al Khoziny, in the province of East Java, which was undergoing unauthorized expansion.

The students were mostly boys from 7th to 12th grade, aged between 12 and 18. The students were praying in another part of the building and managed to escape, survivors said.

The prayer hall had two floors, but two more without permission were being built, according to the authorities.

Police said the foundations of the old building apparently could not stand two more concrete floors and collapsed during the concrete process.
