The huge interruption of electricity () that influenced it and on April 28 is the “first” associated with a phenomenon of overcoming its trend in Europe, and possibly worldwide, according to intermediate “facts” of a panel of 45 European experts to whom they have been commissioned.
Unprecedented, serious electrical damage to the network
“This is the most serious electrical damage in Europe for the last 20 years and most importantly it is the first of its kind,” associated with “repeated incidents of overcoming the voltage,” said Damian Cortina, chairman of the ENTSO-E, European Network,
“This had never happened in Europe before, we are sure. We also believe in the whole world, though we do not have all the information from each country. But we found no reference to this type of blackout (…) anywhere in the world, “he said.
The Black Back brought chaos to Iberia, carriers hide items
The blackout took place on Monday, April 28 at 12:33 pm Spain (13:33 pm Greece) and affected the whole of the Iberian peninsula. It caused chaos in both Portugal and Spain, where residents were left without electricity but also without access to the internet and mobile telephony.
This report, which describes the time chain that led to the general power outage, does not yet give the primary causes of the first events. Following this report, the team of experts will announce its final report in the first quarter of 2026, which will include these “first reasons” and make recommendations.
This interim report is based on a huge amount of data, which took a “long time” to gather, mainly because some “third parties” “had not given their consent to the Spanish Transmission Network manager in order to transmit the data,” the latter underlined. Some data are still missing.
Verbs of Power, Intensity and Frequency Before Stop
According to the report, two episodes of “fluctuations of power, intensity and frequency” had been reported half an hour before the interruption, which mainly affected the Spanish and Portuguese system.
An excessive voltage phenomenon caused repeated production losses that were disconnected in the series of electricity production centers – thermoelectric power stations and renewable energy stations – the exact causes of which are not yet known.
