The Spanish left -wing government, led by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, wants to anchor the right to abortion. In the case of the enforcement of this constitutional change, Spain would become the second country after France, where the Constitution guarantees the right to an artificial interruption of pregnancy. According to Reuters, TASR reports this.
“There will be no retreat in the field of social rights in this government,” Sánchez wrote in the social network X. Constitutional change requires the support of three -fifths of the Dolni Parliament deputies and it must also be supported by representatives of the opposition right -wing parties.
The government is also striving to regulate other laws on abortion. For example, he wants to prevent women who want to end pregnancy get false information encouraging them to change their views.
The amended law would order health organizations to provide information concerning abortion exclusively on the basis of objective scientific evidence, in accordance with the standards set by institutions such as the World Health Organization (WHO) or the American Psychiatric Association.
The government responds to Wednesday’s decision of the Madrid City Council, which has committed to medical facilities in the city to inform women considering abortion about the so -called “post -garticular syndrome”. The measure was proposed by the right -wing VOX party and was also supported by MPs of the Conservative People’s Party (PP).
This syndrome, which is not a scientific consensus, allegedly leads to the use of alcohol and drugs, suicidal thoughts or even to the cancer of the female reproductive system, claims Vox. “PP decided to connect with the far right. It is their choice. They can do so. But not at the expense of women’s freedoms and rights,” Sánchez stressed.
