Ukraine drones have reached one of Russia’s largest chemical factories, located more than 1,600 kilometers from the Ukrainian-controlled territory, during the early hours of Friday (3), a Russian authority said.
The attack briefly interrupted production at Azot Chemical Factory and damaged a residential building in the perm region of Russia, according to regional governor Dmitry Makhonin.
Video images shared this Friday in the Telegram messaging app, not yet verified by CNNThey show flames emerging above a building and throwing a fluorescent orange shine in the sky.
“An attack by UAV enemy was held at night,” said Makhonin. “Fortunately, there were no victims.”
The factory has resumed normal operations and there is no risk to the environment or public safety, he added.
Azot is owned by the chemistry giant Uralchem, one of the largest fertilizer producers and exporters in the world, such as nitrogen, potassium and complex fertilizers, according to its website.
The Azot factory in Berezniki claims to be the only Russian sodium nitrate producer, used in both agriculture and explosives, as well as upper aliphatic amines and crystalline sodium nitrite.
Uralchem is the main Russian producer of ammonium nitrate and potassium chloride and occupies the first place in the domestic supply of these fertilizers.
