Ryanair has announced an important change that will affect all passengers in the coming months. The news requires an adaptation to the usual boarding process and promises to simplify the travel experience.
According to Ekonomist Economics and Finance Site, the change will come into force on November 12, 2025, when they will no longer be accepted paper boarding cards and all passengers will have to resort to the digital card generated in the Myryanair application. About 80 percent of passengers already use this format, which facilitates the transition.
What changes to travelers
The main change lies in the check-in process. All passengers must check in online or by application, generate the digital boarding card and present it at the time of boarding. For those who come across unforeseen events, such as the exhausted mobile phone battery, the card will already be registered in the company’s systems, allowing boarding without problems.
For those who do not have regular internet access, the recommendation is to prepare the card in advance. In situations of greater technological difficulty, someone else can check in on their behalf.
There are still specific exceptions. In some check-in counters at the airport, a paper version may be requested at no additional costs. Countries with particular demands, such as Morocco, maintain the need for physical ticket in certain circumstances.
Sustainability, simplification and savings
The company’s decision is based on three main pillars. The first is sustainability: eliminating paper boarding cards makes it possible to significantly reduce resource consumption, with an estimated savings in hundreds of tons of paper per year.
The second reason is the simplification of the process. The digital card makes it possible to communicate in real time changes of gates, delays or flight changes, as well as providing additional features within the application.
The third pillar is the cost reduction. The production and management of physical tickets involves expenses with printing, logistics and customer support.
With the digital card, these expenses decrease, making the process more efficient for the company and passengers.
Tips for not being caught off guard
To avoid setbacks, the recommendation is to install the Myryanair application and familiarize yourself with your duties before the trip. Online check-in should be done before arriving at the airport, ensuring that the digital card is available on the mobile phone.
It is advisable for the device to be loaded or to take a power bank. Storing a digital boarding card screen capture can be useful, allowing quick access even without internet connection. Confirming the rules of the starter airport is also important, as some situations still require paper ticket.
Ryanair bets on a complete digital transition from November 2025, offering passengers a way to travel lighter and without paper. According to, investing a few minutes now in digital check-in can avoid setbacks at the time of boarding, making the experience quieter for everyone.
