Members of the Brazilian Embassy team in Tel Aviv visited, this Friday (3), Brazilians of the Global Humanitarian Sumud Humanitarian Flotilla detained by Israel.
The group was part of the 40 boats that sailed to the Gaza Strip to bring groceries to the Palestinian people, when it was intercepted by the Israeli forces on Wednesday (1st).
Itamaraty sources informed the Estadão That Brazilians are in good health and that, according to the detainees themselves, the Israeli government offered the possibility of signing a document to be deported to Brazil. So far, only five of the 13 arrested Brazilians have expressed interest in establishing the agreement.

Flotilla members who refuse the agreement will be subject to judicial process filed by Israel, who may also deport them, although there is no provision for the duration of this process.
The visit, which lasted more than eight hours, took place at the Ktzi’ot Prison Center, the largest arrest of the Israeli territory, located about 100 kilometers north of Jerusalem. Brazilians are divided into two groups, separated by gender. Among the detainees is federal deputy Luizianne Lins (PT-CE).
The mayor, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), said he was informed of the detention of the deputy and requested all Itamaraty support to ensure that the parliamentary’s prerogatives and the rights of other Brazilians are respected by the Israeli authorities.

In a note published on Thursday (2), Itamaraty condemned Israeli military action, stating that the detention “violates rights and endangers the physical integrity of protesters in peaceful action”.
The Global Sumud flotilla (word meaning “resilience” in Arabic) is a humanitarian movement that tries to break the blockade to the gaza range with groceries. The fleet left Barcelona, Spain, on August 31, with 45 vessels and more than 500 people. Among the activists were Swedish Greta Thunberg, Brazilian Thiago Ávila, Irish actor Liam Cunningham and a Brazilian delegation with 17 members.
