This is the second time this week that Munich Airport is required to suspend operations due to the sighting of drones
Air traffic was “progressively” resumed this morning at Munich airport, southern Germany, after delays caused by new drone remarks confirmed by local police, said Germany’s second largest airport.
The airport added that it is “expected delays throughout the day,” after suspending air traffic on Friday night for the second time, disturbing dozens of flights and affecting about 6,500 passengers.
This infrastructure was forced to close due to reports of drone sighting and following the cancellation of more than 30 flights the day before.
Already on Thursday night, having air traffic reopened on Friday morning.
Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken has confirmed that several ‘drones’ were detected to fly over a military training camp in eastern Belgium, near the German border.
“Several ‘drones’ were detected by local police, both Belgian and German,” Francken told Belgian television station RTBF, adding that an investigation was opened to investigate responsibilities.
Last Sunday, the Denmark Armed Forces announced that they have spotted drones about military facilities in the country, for the second consecutive day, after several violations of European airspace by Russian aircraft in recent days.
The emergence of drones led Copenhagen airport to end air traffic for about four hours on September 22, causing delays to approximately 20,000 passengers.
The Danish authorities suspected possible links to Russia, but Moscow denied being involved.
These incidents happen after the foray of Russian drones also in Poland and Romania, as well as the approach of Russian fighters to the airspace of Estonia.
