“Flavors Table” joined generations in Baixo Guadiana

The project “Flavors Table – Valuation of Mediterranean Diet”, promoted by the Odiana – Association for the Development of Baixo Guadiana, ended with a very positive balance. Between February and August 25 intergenerational sessions were held that brought children and seniors closer to kitchens, gardens and classrooms, reinforcing healthy habits and valuing the Mediterranean diet.

For the Odiana, the results were clear: the children of the 2nd cycle improved eating habits, evaluated by the Kidmed index, while the seniors registered progress in the predimed index. More than 90% of participants were very satisfied, considering that the Mediterranean diet is also identity, community and well-being.

During the holidays, the axis pauses tentative pausa boosted eight sessions in Alcoutim, Martim Longo and Castro Marim, involving 197 students, a number that exceeded expectations. In the final balance, the objectives were widely exceeded, especially the adherence to the Mediterranean food standard, which reached a 254%achievement rate.

According to the project, the project left a mark in the territory by valuing local products, stimulating the proximity economy and rescuing knowledge transmitted between generations. “More than activities, ties were created: between those who teach and those who learn, between past and future, between health and culture”, underlines the association.

The initiative was distinguished by the 6th edition of Caixa Social 2024 awards, awarded by Caixa Geral de Depósitos, recognizing the innovative character of the project and its contribution to socialization between young and elderly in the rural environment of Baixo Guadiana.
